About Our Lady of The Rosary Cathedral
Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral was established on October 7, 1927, by Bishop John J. Cantwell as Holy Rosary Church to accommodate growing Catholic populations in San Bernardino. The building was constructed in 1928 and dedicated that same year. When the Diocese of San Bernardino was created in 1978, Holy Rosary Church was elevated to cathedral status and renamed Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral. The cathedral underwent a major $1 million restoration from 1992 to 1997, which included a new tower, stucco coating, restrooms, protective panels for stained glass windows, parish hall renovation, and expanded parking. Today it serves as the spiritual center of the diocese.
