About St. Mary Magdalen Chapel

St. Mary Magdalen Parish was founded in 1913 when Juan and Adolfo Camarillo commissioned architect Albert C. Martin to design a mission-style chapel on a hilltop in Camarillo, dedicated to their sister Magdalena. The original chapel, built in honor of their parents, featured ornate appointments including oak furnishings, white marble statuary, and thirteen hand-selected stained glass windows from Munich. The chapel was given to the Los Angeles Archdiocese in 1940 to serve as a parish church. In 1975, a new larger church was completed at Las Posas Road and Crestview Avenue, seating 850 parishioners, with mission-style architecture featuring a white stucco exterior, red tile roofing, colorful stained glass, and interior elements including hand-carved wooden beams and walnut altar.
