Spring Hill Cemetery

Spring Hill Cemetery was established in the mid-19th century on land originally part of Jasper O'Farrell's Spanish land grant and later developed as James Madison McReynolds' Spring Hill Farm. McReynolds buried his first wife on the property and subsequently allowed it to be used as a local cemetery affiliated with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The cemetery served pioneer families who arrived from Missouri and other eastern states in the 1850s, including the McReynolds, Finley, Gaulden, and Zilhart families. Ownership of the property has been fragmented over time through various deeds and transfers. As of 2005, the cemetery had fallen into severe disrepair, overgrown with brush and vegetation, and has been the target of vandalism and grave marker damage. Preservation efforts have been undertaken since 2004 by family researcher Susan Zeni to prevent further deterioration and potential loss of this historic burial ground.
