Dental implants are man-made replacements for natural teeth. The implants themselves are artificial tooth roots made from titanium and are anchored in the gum and jawbone. Replacement teeth, referred to as crowns, are then permanently secured to these metal implants.

Not all patients are eligible for dental implants. You must be in good general and oral health. Those undergoing cancer treatment, with uncontrolled diabetes or uncontrolled periodontal disease may not be eligible.

Mini implants are smaller than standard implants and don't need as much space in the bone. They are used to secure an advanced kind of dentures or partial dentures that clip on instead of being attached by adhesives. They can be a more affordable option for whole-mouth restoration.

You care for your implants just as you would care for natural teeth: by brushing them for two minutes twice a day or after meals, and by flossing daily.

At a minimum, you will usually pay at least several thousand dollars for dental implants, but costs vary greatly depending on the specifics of your dental condition and the dental plan recommended.

Implants don't rely on attaching to surrounding healthy teeth to stay in place. Bridges require healthy teeth to be reshaped, and can put you at higher risk of tooth decay in supporting teeth, while a standalone implant does not.
