Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery was established in 1882 as a cemetery, with the mortuary added in 1959 and a historic mausoleum added in 1971. Nestled below the San Gabriel Mountains above Pasadena, it is one of the few remaining family-operated cemetery/mortuary properties in Southern California. The mausoleum, designed by renowned architect Cecil E. Bryan (who trained under Frank Lloyd Wright), features a 180-foot Great Gallery with an ornate hand-painted frescoed ceiling depicting the story of Christianity (completed over four years), surfaces of more than 64 varieties of Italian marble, and stained-glass windows created by Judson Studios. The property combines historical significance with modern personalized service and welcomes visitors 365 days a year from 8 AM to 5 PM, with professional funeral staff available 24 hours.
