Temple Beth El, located in Aptos, operates two Jewish cemeteries in Santa Cruz County. Home of Peace (Beit Shalom) was one of the temple's first responsibilities, consecrated in 1877. When it began to fill, the temple purchased a Jewish section at the historic Soquel Cemetery. The cemeteries are closed from dusk to dawn on weekdays and Friday evening until Sunday morning in observance of Shabbat. As a non-endowed cemetery, plot owners are responsible for upkeep, though Temple Beth El offers a 25% discount on monument repairs for members with 5+ years continuous membership.
