Evergreen Memorial Park

Evergreen Memorial Historic Cemetery is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the historic portion of Evergreen Cemetery. Founded in 1872, the cemetery was once the pride of Riverside but fell into disrepair following changes to laws governing the use of cemetery funds. The restoration effort began in 2003 under the leadership of Judge Victor Miceli. The cemetery lies at the foot of Mount Rubidoux and contains more than 27,000 interments, including many of regional and national significance. The historic portion houses over 1,500 graves, among them several of Riverside's most notable founders: John Wesley North (Riverside's founder), Luther and Eliza Tibbets (founders of the citrus industry), Frank Augustus Miller (creator of the Mission Inn), G. Stanley Wilson (Mission Inn architect), Lyman Waite (water, citrus, and banking pioneer), and Raymond Best (founder of one of California's largest law firms). The Evergreen Memorial Historic Cemetery Board of Directors is committed to raising $3 million to complete the restoration and ensure perpetual maintenance of the historical portion.
