The Estin Company was founded in 1986 when Mel Estin, a cemetery broker, encouraged his wife Sue and former co-worker Phil Cox to launch the venture together. Sue Estin had spent over a decade working in the interment office at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California before joining the company. Her warm personality and attention to detail helped establish the company's reputation for repeat business. The company has grown to include Cristi Thatcher, who started while studying at California State University, Northridge, and Tim Thatcher, who joined in 2018 and represents a third generation of the family business. The Estin Company is a member of the California Funeral Directors Association and the Los Angeles County Funeral Directors Association.
