Cremation is a process that uses heat (via fossil fuels) to create temperatures between 1700°F and 2000°F. During the process, all organic material in the body burns away, leaving behind inorganic bones. After 2 to 2.5 hours in the machine, what is left are these skeletal remains. The bones are swept out of the cremation chamber (also called a retort) and processed down to a fine particulate mixture typically called ashes or cremated remains.

Factors that impact timing include: the day of death (weekends/holidays may delay agency paperwork), doctor's signature on death certificate (doctors have 48 hours), family's paperwork completion, and cremation schedule availability. Rush cremations under 72 hours are possible for an additional fee.

The process includes: families/hospitals signing off when releasing the deceased, the person receiving a distinct ankle tag upon arrival, metal disk with unique ID placed in the cremation chamber before cremation, and the metal disk surviving the process with the ashes for tracing through documentation. Each stage has checks to prevent receiving incorrect remains.

Yes, you can request a witness cremation. Clarity will schedule a time for you and a small group to come to the crematory and accompany your loved one as they are placed into the cremation machine. Selected family members or friends can help place the person into the machine and push the button that starts the cremation process. Other rituals such as letter-writing, dressing of the body, or music can also be arranged.
