Cremation is a process that uses heat (via fossil fuels) to create temperatures between 1700°F and 2000°F. All organic material in the body burns away, leaving behind inorganic bones. After 2 to 2.5 hours in the cremation chamber (retort), the skeletal remains are swept out and processed down to a fine particulate mixture typically called ashes or cremated remains.

The timeframe from when you notify Clarity of the death until remains are returned can range from a few days to just over a week. Factors affecting timing include: day of death (weekend/holiday delays with government agencies), doctor's signature on death certificate (48 hours required but can take longer), family paperwork submission, and cremation schedule (longer waits during cold/flu season and holidays). Rush cremations under 72 hours are possible with an additional fee.

Clarity has multiple safeguards: families or hospitals sign off when releasing the person to the facility; an ankle tag is placed on the body upon arrival; prior to cremation, all documentation is reviewed and a metal disk with a unique ID is placed in the cremation chamber with the body; the metal disk survives cremation and is placed with the processed remains, allowing the ashes to be traced back through paperwork to verify all details of the process.

Yes. Witness cremations are available, where you and a small group can come to the crematory and accompany your loved one as they are placed into the cremation machine. Selected family members or friends can help place the person into the machine and push the button that starts the cremation process. Other rituals such as letter-writing, dressing of the body, or music can also be done with a witness cremation.
