Burial Site Of John Chisum

Chisum Cemetery is a historic burial ground located in the 1100 block of West Washington Street in Paris, Lamar County, Texas, between two railroad tracks. The cemetery is notable as the burial site of John Simpson Chisum (1824–1884), a prominent 19th-century cattle baron whose herds of 60,000 to 100,000 head ranged across Texas and New Mexico. The cemetery contains three known marked graves: those of Lucinda Armstrong Chisum (1804–1837, the oldest inscribed burial), Claiborne C. Chisum (1802–1852), and John Simpson Chisum. The site is recognized as a historic Texas cemetery and bears an official Texas Historical Commission marker placed in 1967.
